1 Kings 13:12-24

Many modern, self-professed prophets and teachers are showing up and telling the church that God told them something quite different from what His word clearly says. Claiming the title “pastor” and having attended a Bible school or seminary, they present themselves as authorities on behalf of God. As Satan in the Garden, they begin with, “Yea, hath God said…”[1]. When the unlearned believer responds, “Yes He did,” these teachers reply, “It is not so.”[2]

According to these liars, Christ did not die to pay the penalty for our sins in accordance with the Scriptures[3] but set the ultimate example of “non-violent resistance of the evil empire”...

The thing is, you either believe Him or you don’t. You can’t say Jesus was a good teacher, a nice man, or a good example while refusing to accept what He said. Either He is indeed a good teacher, a nice man, and a good example Who spoke the truth, or He is a liar, and if a liar, He cannot be either a good teacher, a nice man, or a good example; Liars are not good people nor are they wise teachers.

Jesus did not contradict John the Baptist when he declared Jesus to be the Lamb of God Who takes away the sin of the world. He did not correct him when His older cousin John declared Jesus to have lived before John, despite John having being conceived months before Jesus. How could a man conceived and born after have existed before?

2:1        διο αναπολογητος ει ω ανθρωπε πας ο κρινων εν ω γαρ κρινεις τον ετερον σεαυτον κατακρινεις τα γαρ αυτα πρασσεις ο κρινων

            Therefore, you are defenceless, oh person! Everyone who judges, for in that which you judge the other, you are condemning yourself, for you who are judging are committing the same things!

2:2        οιδαμεν δε οτι το κριμα του θεου εστιν κατα αληθειαν επι τους τα τοιαυτα πρασσοντας

            We recognize that the judgment of God is according to truth on those who commit such (things).

      Then what (is) the prerogative (excessive) (perisson) of the Jew, or what the benefit of the circumcision?

2    πολυ κατα παντα τροπον πρωτον μεν γαρ οτι επιστευθησαν τα λογια του θεου

      Much according to every manner! First indeed because they were entrusted with the oracles of God

3    τι γαρ ει ηπιστησαν τινες μη η απιστια αυτων την πιστιν του θεου καταργησει

      For what if some disbelieved? Their unbelief shall not nullify the faith of God. (second clause reads:

4:1        What then shall we say Abraham our father according to flesh to have found?

            τι ουν ερουμεν αβρααμ τον πατερα ημων ευρηκεναι κατα σαρκα

4:2        For if Abraham by works (deeds) was justified, he has boast – but not toward God.

            ει γαρ αβρααμ εξ εργων εδικαιωθη εχει καυχημα αλλ ου προς τον θεον

4:3        for what says the Scripture, but ‘Abraham believed to (lit: trusted) God, and it was reckoned to him for righteousness.

            τι γαρ η γραφη λεγει επιστευσεν δε αβρααμ τω θεω και ελογισθη αυτω εις δικαιοσυνην

Chapter 5

1       δικαιωθεντες ουν εκ πιστεως ειρηνην εχομεν προς τον θεον δια του κυριου ημων ιησου χριστου

Being then justified from faith, we have peace toward God through our Lord Jesus Christ,

2       δι ου και την προσαγωγην εσχηκαμεν τη πιστει εις την χαριν ταυτην εν η εστηκαμεν και καυχωμεθα επ ελπιδι της δοξης του θεου

through Whom also we have access to the faith into this grace in which we stand and rejoice (boast) on the hope of the glory of God.

3       ου μονον δε αλλα και καυχωμεθα εν ταις θλιψεσιν ειδοτες οτι η θλιψις υπομονην κατεργαζεται...

1    What then shall we say (declare)? Shall we continue in sin, that grace should increase?

1    τι ουν ερουμεν επιμενουμεν τη αμαρτια ινα η χαρις πλεοναση

2    May it not be. We who died to sin, how shall we, still live in it?

2    μη γενοιτο οιτινες απεθανομεν τη αμαρτια πως ετι ζησομεν εν αυτη

3    Or are you ignorant that we, as many as were baptized into Christ Jesus, into His death we were baptized?

3    η αγνοειτε οτι οσοι εβαπτισθημεν εις χριστον ιησουν εις τον θανατον αυτου εβαπτισθημεν
