Zechariah 2:1-13
2:4 And said unto him, ‘Run, speak to this young man, saying, “Jerusalem shall be inhabited as towns without walls for the multitude of men and cattle therein,
5 For I,” says YHWH, “will be to her a wall of fire round about, and will be the glory in the midst of her.
6 Ho, ho, come forth, and flee from the land of the north,” saith YHWH, “for I have spread you abroad as the four winds of the heaven,” saith YHWH.
7 Deliver yourself, O Zion, that dwells with the daughter of Babylon.
8 For thus says YHWH of hosts, “After the glory has he sent me to the nations which spoiled you, for he that touches you touches the apple of his eye.
9 For, behold, I will shake my hand upon them, and they shall be a spoil to their servants, and you shall know that YHWH of hosts has sent me.
10 Sing and rejoice, O daughter of Zion: for, lo, I come, and I will dwell in the midst of you,” saith YHWH.
11 And many nations shall be joined to YHWH in that day, and shall be my people: and I will dwell in the midst of you, and you shall know that YHWH of hosts has sent me to you.
12 And YHWH shall inherit Judah, his portion in the holy land, and shall choose Jerusalem again.
13 Be silent, O all flesh, before YHWH: for he is raised up out of his holy habitation.
- The Speaker throughout is YHWH. (v 5, 6, 8, 10)
The Speaker, Who was sent, was YHWH was sent to them (v 8, 11)
- The Sender is YHWH (v 9, 11)
The Sender is distinct from He who is sent.
Both the Sender is YHWH, and He who was sent by Him is YHWH.
- YHWH is the Lord God Almighty.
Both the Sender and He Who is sent are YHWH, therefore both Sender and He who is sent are God almighty.
This text shows two unique members within YHWH.
Zechariah 12:10
And I will pour upon the house of David, and upon the inhabitants of Jerusalem, the spirit of grace and of supplications, and they shall look upon me whom they have pierced, and they shall mourn for him, as one mourns for his only son, and shall be in bitterness for him, as one that is in bitterness for his firstborn.”
The speaker is YHWH (shown in v. 4: “… says YHWH…”)
Yet the house of David will “look upon [the Speaker who is YHWH] Whom they have pierced.”
Jesus Christ is He who was pierced, therefore YHWH has stated that YHWH who is speaking is Jesus.
